Former boxing legend Mike Tyson recently named the contemporary heavyweight boxer he esteemed a rare breed.
Tyson did this while talking to Fight TV Hub.
The bout between Francis Ngannou and Tyson Fury is still a subject of many discussions the week after October 28, in which both fighters possibly surprised each other in Riyadh, Saudi Arabia. Few will have thought that even boxing debutant Francis Ngannou was surprised by not being able to keep Fury on the canvas, as they were of seeing WBC heavyweight champion Fury crash on the floor from Ngannou’s left hook.
In the wake of the bout, while speaking to Fight TV Hub, Mike Tyson said that Fury was a very rare fighter.
‘He is rare; he is just rare. He’s once in a lifetime,’ said Tyson, who personally trained Ngannou ahead of the bout. ‘To be that successful [at that size], there has always been big guys that maybe look obese or overweight, but they have never been that successful.’
Mike Tyson himself is among the shortest successful boxers and has been rated as only slightly less than Muhammad Ali. His image was peculiar based on a mixture of a number of things, including his speed, his aggressiveness, his signature punch to the left ribs followed by an uppercut, his mostly prosperous left-hook knockdowns, and others.
In contrast with Tyson Fury, who is famously accused of letting himself get hit, Mike Tyson’s style was handy ducks followed by dismantling blows from all sides. But the two have one thing in common: they have been mysteries to fellow pugilists in their weight classes.
Francis Ngannou is known as the hardest-punching MMA artist of the era, but Tyson Fury survived his blows and managed to win by a split decision during their contest. Another wonder was that Tyson Fury stood strong on his feet all through the ten-round faceoff without stumbling about dizzy for once. Even though Fury is not famed for dodging attacks, at least he is now taking Ngannou and Deontay Wilder’s blows and still winning them.
